Carol Service

Christmas Carol Service

Once again, this was led by Val Dailly with Rob Smith and the Uttoxter Town Band.

This year the Carol Service was incorporated into our regular Sunday worship with series of traditional and modern Christmas songs and hymns, and readings that tell the story of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

"Unite" us a regular praise and worship celebration held in and around Stoke on Trent. This time it was in Christchurch Hall, Tunstall, in collaboration with Walk Ministries,

It was a cold night but between 120 and 130 folks turned out to hear about what WALK Ministries does and how it began. There were many of the men from WALK helping set up, greeting people and giving their testimony of how Jesus had saved them from re-offending, returning to drugs and going back into prison.

Our good friend David Crowther spoke. He appealed to people present who didn't know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, to make sure they did before the evening was out. As a result three people made first-time commitments to trust and follow Jesus and three or four made recommitments! Steve Dailly led praise and worship inspirationally! This was an excellent evening, and we truly thank God for His Holy Spirit moving throughout.

Christmas Celebration

led by Val Dailly with Uttoxter Town Band, led by Rob Smith.

At the start of the Chistmas season, we joined together with our good friends at the town brass band to celebrate the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. The programme brought a rich mix of contemporay worship and traditional carols.

Bible Study
Bible study

As of 7th October, we have been meeting for Prayer and Bible study at the church. The Bible study programme can be seen [here] and we will continue to meet in a safe manner for as long as we are able.

As of 5th July, the Church has been open for Sunday morning worship. We are doing this a bit tentatively and keeping the Government guidelines ... so we are recording songs separately from the main service.

We are, however, keeping our online service. This looks a bit different from the actual 'live' service because the songs are being edited back into it.

We Are Men United

Jamie Hill

Longton Central Hall, Stoke on Trent

Some men from Dove Church attended We Are Men United, a day conference to empower and enable Christian men in their lives and ministry.

The day started with worship, led by Scott Calvert and the worship band from New Life Church in Cheadle. They stayed with us through the day and supported other worship leaders: Jamie Hill; James Adams and Noel Robinson. Other highlights included:

... as well as workshops from Matthew Murray (Mission), Lloyd Cooke (Bereavement), Anthony Bostock (The Bible) and Jamie Hill and James Adams (Worship). We saw God moving powerfully among the 400 men who attended. A dozen or so came to Christ and some men were physically healed.

The next We Are Men United event is scheduled for 13th June 2020 in at Victory Outreach UK in Cwmbran, South Wales.

King's Kid Choir

King's Kid Choir at the Dove

A group of about twelve Ugandan 'kids' between about 10 and about 18 years and their pastor joined us for an evening of music, dance and testimony. The event was long-awaited, having been delayed from before Christmas.

Kings Kid Pastor Robert
Pastor Robert Mponye

Being in the same room as they prayed before the start, I knew we would be in for something special. They poured their hearts out to God as they called heaven down.

They began with National Anthems - ours and theirs - standing to attention with their hands on their hearts. How often does that happen? (This is a challenge in itself; these young people are so respectful.)

Then they sang, danced, drummed - very dynamic and perfectly choreographed. And they testified. We heard of Grace, a baby girl dumped in a latrine, fished out and taken to a rural hospital and expected to die, except that Pastor Robert rescued her. A parasitic infection had taken her eyes. Later, surgery in Kampala enabled her to open them so that she could blink, but she had no vision. Her eyes were too badly damaged. Then God healed her suddenly at the age of 18 months ... and here she is, dancing and singing with the others.

And they all have similar stories, of journeys from hopelessness to hope in Jesus Christ. They are passionate for life and about God.

They are almost at the end of their three-week tour now. They fly home next week. I pray that they will return home as inspired as we have been by their testimony. They will continue in our hearts and in our prayers.

The Filling Station, Stramshall Village Hall [details]

This was another excellent Filling Station event. Worship was led by Peter and Steve and introduced another of Peter's own songs. This was followed by an inspiring personal testimony.

After the break, Rev Brian Leathers of Alton delivered an excellent teaching on the Authority of Scripture (including a memory verse!). This was followed by an opportunity for people to pray freely together - an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to move among the people.

Next time the speaker will be Simon Edwards of Walk Ministries.

Dan Fleet steps down from the Eldership

(The Reverend) Dan Fleet, formerly the vicar of Alton and chaplain to Alton Towers, joined the Dove Church with his family in 2002 when he left the Anglican ministry and began a career in teaching.

In 2009, he joined the leadership team at the Dove as an Elder, where he has been a mainstay of the 'leading' and 'preaching' rotas. He took a leading role in the long-running Soul Cafe programme, hosting most of these events, and initiated the Friday Afternoon Tea. In recent years he has opened almost every Sunday service with a welcome, prayer and his idiosyncratic wit, which will also be greatly missed.

It has been a privilege to share fellowship with Dan and Judith over the years and to watch their children grow up and leave home. We wish them well for the future as they continue to serve the Lord, possibly returning to an Anglican setting.

A new member and a new Elder

This morning we were very pleased to welcome Margaret Burton into membership of the church. We look forward to her fellowship as we follow our Lord together.

Also this morning Stephen Dailly was recognised as an Elder. He will replace Dan Fleet, who steps down at the end of the year.
